I had to make a spring loaded spool valve to replace a pinned valve among a few other spring selections. In a gasser v/b there is no 1st gear valve per se. You have to use the amplified governor pressure to kickdown into 1st. Its not as easy as it sounds. There are about 4 valves in play to make that happen. In my coupe I did the exact same mods and it wouldn't start in first. Thats a large part of the reason I'm working on a 722.6 swap for the coupe. I've spent too much of my life in a 722.3 valve body. I know for a fact that if your pan gasket doesn't tear the 9th time you tighten it, it will on the 10th.
