CLK430 Climate Control - Temp Sensor Issues

On my 2000 CLK430 (80K) I'm getting conflicting outside temperature readings. On the gauge cluster the outside temps are correct whereas the sensor readings at the climate control #2 sensor shows temps that are in the 110-140 range when the outside temps are in the 70's. I unplugged the sensor at the bumper and then the gauge cluster shows -36 so i know the sensor is working and that it reports to the gauge cluster. I should have checked the climate control readout but I didn't - so I have to redo that test. The climate control unit thinks it very hot so unless I jack the temps to HI/HI I will not get heat. Any thoughts? Is there another sensor for the climate control unit or do I have a wiring issue or god forbid is the climate control faulty?
