1985 Mercedes 500 SEL - Power steering persistent leak???
A buddy of mine own a really nice 1985 Mercedes 500 SEL. He was explaining that he's been loosing power steering fluid. He's replaced the power steering hose and rubber pieces, and the power steering pump.
In spike of his efforts he can not locate the source of the leak. He also checked the steering box, and it isn't leaking. Can anyone suggest another item / items to check? Ron

Three things come to mind.
1) The some power steering pumps have gaskets under the lids that get missed off 2) Return pressure hoses often get missed / they leak slowly (but this should be obvious) 3) The steering box has a bolt that can be removed to centre the position during alignments (for example). If not tight this bolt won't leak fluid when the wheels are straight ahead but fluid can drain out of the system when the wheels are turned close to full lock. (This is the best way to drain the system of the fluid)
