1985 500sec engine backfires and will not start

Hey guys, i recently put togheter my engine after replacing the intake manifold gaskets.
Now when im trying to fire the engine, it only backfires, from the engine and not from the exhaust :O The cylinders got flooded when i was removing the intake manifold, i only unscrewed it and checked that i was loose and called it the day, not smart.
Ive crancked the engine without spark plugs to drain the cylinders.

I did manage to twist the return line from the distributor when i removed it, but it still flows, i will replace it, but i hope to get the engine running before all of this

Any help would be much appreciated.

If it is just flooded then I would expect it to clear out fairly quickly. Is it even trying to run?

It used to be, back in the day of carburetors, that a flooded engine was started by flooring the accelerator pedal and keeping it floored while engaging the starter - until it finally started. Not sure this is the case with yours.

FYI only.

Hey guys, fixed the issue, my helper had put the ingniton cables to opposite direction, it fired nicely and smoked white for about 20 minutes, now the smoke is much less.

But the car still has running issues, but that will be a story for another thread
