engine temp

engine temp runs about 90C but goes slightly over 100 in stop and go traffic...is this normal?
when the engine is cold , hoses are a bit soft...does this have any significance...have a new cap.

can anyone help??

I can't help you with the hoses question, but I can tell you about the engine temp. in my 190e. It runs about 80dc and may rise a bit above that in stop & go traffic. I haven't had it approach the 100dc level as of yet. While I'm driving, it generally stays around 80dc or slightly below.

How does your coolant level look ... OK? Have you had the coolant system flushed in the last 2 years. I see that you are in Los Angeles -- you're running in hotter temperatures that I am here in Wisconsin & Illinois. Just a few suggestions to get you started ... I'm sure that someone more knowledgeable can give you more information!

Take care,
Michael.

It's fine for it to go over 100 in traffic.. the aux fan should cut in by 105.

later

I have the same car as tkamiya, with the same M104 engine, and mine runs at exactly the same temperature in hot, Southern California weather.

In more moderate weather (65 - 80 degrees F), I run 90 to 92 degrees, and may go up to 95-98 degrees in stop and go traffic.

When I went to Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago, it was in the 90s, and I was consistently at 100-102 in stop and go traffic on the strip.

Arif,

I would recommend doing a coolant flush and change the percentage of coolant used. Here is what I found works really well with my car and keeps it under 98C even in stop and go traffic.

Add 38% MB Coolant, A bottle of Redline Water Wetter (Pep Boys has it), and the remainder water. Water wetter allows you to use less antifreeze which will keep your car running cooler.

Hope this helps.
