rear view mirror keeps falling downward

hello, i have a relatively minor problem that is causing a major annoyance. My rear view mirror, after every bump, always falls down(angled down, the mirror is still attached it just slips from where i had positioned it), i popped the mirror off the ball thingy, and the plastic around the ball is cracked on the actual mirror itself. Is there a cheap fix? if not, how much are those mirros? thanks
Ryan

That happened to my '87 300E but my situation may be different than yours. My mirror was actually broken but still have enough friction that the mirror stayed up, until I hit a pretty good bump. I wedged a piece of rubber where the mirror meets the ball joint and it works. Saved myself from buying a new one

update:after trying more tape to make the ball bigger, the female end of the plug finally cracked all the way. Today it is off to the boneyard to pick one up for 30 bucks. Youd better beleive i'm gonna be "testing" each of them first

I'm personally a big fan of "Wink" mirrors. These are the wide angle, multi-faced mirrors that will give you 180 degrees of coverage. They attach to the area above the windshield glass and are available at most auto stores. If you drive in heavy traffic, they are invaluable, though admitedly a bit ugly.
