How bright are your warning lights?

Hi everyone.

I'm noticing that the warning lights on my dashboard are pretty dim. Specifically, the low coolant and charging lights are extremely dim. They seem to be a yellow/orange color. If I were driving on a sunny day and they came on, I would never know.

The SRS and BRAKE lights are very bright -- they are red though. I use the emergency brake quite often, and it is very bright.

I'm just curious if other people have dim dash lights, or if this is yet another "car specific" problem that I have!!

Thanks everyone.
-Michael.

Two things helped with this problem for me. The first was to replace the dash bulbs, as they had deposited specs of filament on the inside of the bulb glass over the years. The second was to buy new indicator symbol strips for my w124 ($5 each side). The strips have the Hi beam, check engine, ABS, etc symbols printed on them, and get dusty and fade over the years. They slide out of the instrument cluster once it is removed, and the new ones slide in to the slots.

The Hi beam was a faded white color, and is once again deep blue and less obnoxious at night. The other symbols are also more visible.

i agree with JCE

the dealer did me the favour of replacing some bulbs (that was before I was introduced to this group ...) and I ended up with different brightness bulbs in the dash (it was OK in the blue Hi Beam, but the other ones were really irritating, having different brightness orange warning lamps during ignition on ).

Dependant on what your indicator strips look like, replace the bulbs (use the same type of new bulb rating throughout) and your problem should be solved.

Take note that the left side bulbs are in a plastic holder (and a tad more expensive) whilst the right side are not ...

Changing them is a breeze ...

hope it helps - otherwise you should clean (with a light emery) the various contacts on the round connector to clear any deposits that may cause a dimming of warning lights.

Re: i agree with JCE

Can somebody quote me a price that I would pay at the dealorship for having the orange bulbs replaced? This is what I'm having the most problems with. Also, my gear shift bulb is out as is a power window button. Could you give me a ball-park figure? Thanks!
