M103 injectors - the guide I wish I had
My 1990 300e idles a bit low and rough. Especially when warm. Also it sometimes takes two or three attempts to start. Lots of things to check out, I know, but anyway today I decided to do the injector seals. Very cheap and potentially helpful.
Basically it is an easy job. It's good to have a ball-end hex key for the holders. Like this ![]() And a semi-closed 14mm wrench for the fuel lines: ![]() Remove the air filter box and loosen the cable canal to get access ![]() Use a 17mm wrench to counter hold the holder and release the fuel line. I did not release the fuel lines from the distributor. Injectors out ![]() I was absolutely not able to slide the old seals off. Tight fit. I simply broke them to pieces. Wise grip locking pliers is handy. At first I didn't realize that the plastic sylinders going down in the manifold can come loose too. Just pull them out. Fitted o-rings to them and refitted. (Was much quicker the second time in the same day... - see below. Thanks duxte1!) ![]() The injector 3 and 4 is a bit of a hassle to reach but apart from that it is smooth sailing. Anyway - car started - difference was ... Subtle. At least I know these parts are ok now. Should probably have the injectors inspected and/or replaced too. The O-rings seal the plastic injector holders into the intake manifold, and not the injector to the holder.

Thanks for the reply. Pull the plastic "tube" and put the o-ring underneath? Would it matter if they stay where they are? It seems to be running fine
- edit - did it properly. Edited post. Thanks Last edited by larsko; 07-24-2016 at 11:46 AM. |

The two seals arrowed plus the yellow tube - good idea to renew all when changing injectors

Thanks for this post. I plan to do my fuel injectors soon too but I wasn't sure which parts to order besides the injectors themselves and I didn't want to get into the job and discover I didn't have everything I needed. That's the worst.

Stick some [IMG] tags around your picture URLs and we'll be able to see them!
The last tag needs to have a "/" character before the "I" to indicate the end of the link

I copied your link in your quote but it didn't work - so I right clicked on the picture in drop box and then copied the URL to get the first picture of your series...

Larsko did you have any fuel come out from the injector pipes after you removed them?

No - i removed pressure from the system first. Removed the fuel pump relay (behind the battery) and ran the starter for a few seconds
