found hanging near steering pump anyone know what it is? 99 e430 sport

Hanging as in plugged in?
Any numbers or markings on it? At first I'd think throttle switch but these cars have drive by wire so that can't be it. |

Part of the plastic housing is broken away so if there were numbers they are gone

Does this engine have a dual path intake manifold? If so, perhaps it is a position confirmation switch. If you had a engine wiring diagram it should show a mechanical sw.

That microswitch looks like part of a hood latch switch.

Its the hood latch switch , used by the alarm, just clips to latch
|
