For some reason I thought we were talking about a 124 chasis. I will have to check again to see if everything I have been saying applies to a 201 body. Sorry.

Steve, my read of the 201 electical manual confirms everything you have been saying. I think the only difference may be the location of the diode. By process of elimination I've concluded that it is on the uneside of the Electrical Center.

Brooks asked me to look this over. I hold Steve's opinion/advice with high regard, but I was unaware that the diode affected operation of the radio. I was pretty sure the radio operation would quit when the ignition was turned off due to the ignition being shut off, but would resume operation if the radio button was pressed because of the constant supply that was available for memory power. I am (or at least was) sure that the diode was only for power seat operation with ignition off/door opened. I
haven't gone back to my 201 CD to look at the radio diagram (Brooks didn't tell me it was a radio problem, just asking about the location of the seat diode).
In short, in looking at my 201 wiring diagrams, it looks to me like 89 was the last year the 201 had the diode, at least for power seat operation. After that, it appears the power seat relay handled it all itself without a diode in the system.
My gut reaction to the radio problem is that the radio is bad, possibly because of the arcing that took place.

Do I get a prize or something if I stump gillybenztech AND stevebfl?

Stereo works fine in all ways...except it works with no key and doors open.

NO, not only don't you get a prize, but unless you or someone else figures it out, your car stays broken.
Check fuse 19, it's for circuit 15R, I am guessing 15R is either missing or the radio is no longer recognizing it, and it's only operating on circuit 30 (constant) power. But if fuse 19 were bad, you'd be also missing the cigar lighter, the rear defog, and the glove box light.

Lightbulb

Ok, here is an update with additional symptoms.

Now, when the door is open and key is off -- sometimes the radio plays and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it goes on or off by itself.

Also, power seats DO still work with the doors open and key off. However, sometimes with the door closed and key running the power seats won't work. If I open the door and touch a seat button, then close the door it will then continue to work.

Whether diode or relay -- don't know that yet -- it seems like it has partially failed / short / bad connection.
