Am I in the right place? 124 issue?
I have an absolutely infuriating problem with a 124 soft top/rollbar issue. Am I in the right forum, or is there a 124 or convertible top issue subforum? Used to be here a bunch, but not in a long while, thanks....

This is pretty much it unless you stop by the SL section. Details of the problem would help.

I didn't want to clog up the airwaves...
unless this was the right place.
Top controller box, and/or rollbar control box problem, a strange one I have never seen. Top begins the dance OK, but rollbars begin to raise when raising or lowering top. There are no more top controller boxes in the universe, according to my dealer, Classic Center, the Euro parts depot, and even the secret room at Stuttgart. Not a one on Ebay or German Ebay. I'm beginning to wonder if it's not the rollbar controller instead of the top controller. Question: Is there anyone that you guys have used that you can trust on diagnosing or refurbing these boxes? Programa seems to have a good reputation, but haven't used them in years; Beckmans says they've never worked on one, often use BBA, but they are a joke on this one. Already took my time and FedEx overnight money to tell me that they really don't have anyway to check it.. Need help. Currently own a super nice well sorted E320 coupe with fabric fixed roof..... Any help is appreciated. |

If your stuck on this one you could register on a Mercedes forum in the uk .I have a link to a w124 manual if it would help you .

On the R129 the roll bar and top are controlled by the same unit, I had thought the 124 was the same as an early R129.
Got the manual at the suggested link, having a wiring diagram to test switches is vital. Also having a detailed sequence of operations would be good, this would let you know if something has to move out of place before the next operation occurs. Any history on this car? Was it working fine when you had it they suddenly quit? In general I'd suspect switches / pinched wire. |
