Ok, I have to admit this. The Blaupunkt knob is too brightly lit, and it was annoying me at night. I didn't want to eliminate the light, just take it down a couple of notches. So I opened the face and used a piece of photograph negative (remember those?) between the dial surround and the LED array to bring it down. If you have a similar radio and want to do this, the face comes apart pretty easily. Just remove the four screws from the back, and separate the front and back cover by prying carefully with a sharp knife. The circuit board is easily pulled away from the face, but mind the microphone, which is attached with thin wires. Don't attempt to remove the knob, work around it.

Considering new radio for 1985 300SD. Does the original Mercedes antenna work with Blaupunkt Madrid 120?

I think you'll find that any new radio is compatible with any remote antenna, including Hirschmann.
After using this radio for several months, I still find it adequate. With one exception. The Bluetooth function doesn't respond to Siri. Once the call is established, it works fine. But without Siri, you can't voice dial. Just in case you were going to use this radio with an Iphone. |

Well, you convinced me; I'm gonna jump in with my '91 W126.
I don't have the part number for my OE Becker, but it does have the big amp in the right rear fender. Sure hope I don't have to do some wiring jiggery back to there to get the antenna and speaker wiring going? DG |

I’m pretty sure it’s not plug-n-play with a ‘91 126 with Becker 1432. What you call an amp is more likely the tuner. The amps are between the rear seat backs and bulkhead. There are no speaker wires nor antenna cable to the center console. Bets are off if your car’s been modified.

I put one of these in one of my older cars that has a factory navigation touch screen thing I didn't want to get rid of(but no bluetooth), and for $75 I honestly have no complaints. Android Auto and voice commands are now quite useful. I've been replacing the volume controls on Becker 1492's and the like for awhile now and plan to put one in my E320 here shortly.

Sixto, yeah you're right; the rear unit is the tuner, just got my nomenclature confused.
So, probably gotta go down to the fader behind the shifter to get the speaker wires, and all the way back to the tuner to get to the antenna control. Reaching those speaker wiress would be easy, had that stuff off a dozen times at least; wonder if I could rig one of the now-unused wires from the dash unit to the tuner, and hook it up as the antenna signal, saving having to rip out the seats, carpet, etc? Gonna sit down with the schematic and make a plan; tired of winters with no radio at all. Really tired of digging old tuners out of wrecks and finding the exact same power transistor bad on all of them. DG |

Good question. I don’t remember how the fader is wired. Really foggy memory says it has dinky 22 gauge wires or something unsuitable as speaker wire but it’ll cost me nothing to be wrong.
