'83 Merz tachometer problem
Hello, Looking for insight to a tachometer problem on a '83 300TD. It quit working yesterday. I already checked fuses-ok, changed the transducer out with one that works on another car- didnt fix- pulled cluster to verify proper connection- no problems there- could it possibly be the pick up at the crankshaft?? How easy/difficult is it to change?? Is there a way to check it? any insight would be appreciated. Thanks! Dave

Search! Search! Search!
Search the threads for this problem! sounds like the tach amp is faulty there is much disscussion and a couple of fixes from quick/cheap/dirty to a rebuild of the solder connections in the Tach Amp Connector. Search Tach Amp, Cigarette Butt Fix etc. Good Luck!

Dave,
My 350SDL had an intermittent "tach not working" issue that recently became generally permanent ... shorter and shorter periods of working. When it doesn't work, the air conditioner also is inop ... assume system is telling A/C that the engine is not running ... Did yours follow this pattern? Did you fix yours? Any advice?
