What happens in an ASR equipped W124 Mercedes if you unplug one (or all) wheel sensor
Curious what happens if one or all wheel speed sensors are unplugged? I can see that I have a frayed cable on the left rear.
What if I just unplug them all?

The car explodes and suffers catastrophic failure.

I'm trying to solve a problem. I have no problem with humor, but it is a serious question. I'm not just playing or experimenting. I've changed the PCM, ABS/ASR module, OVP Relay, the wiring harness is upgraded, the ETA and a few other odds and ends. This has been a tough one to solve. So far recommendations have been what i've changed and it hasn't been cheap or effective to date.

This forum used to be home to mostly mature posters who replied if they had something useful to say. Disappointing to see that isn't the case anymore.

Happens everywhere once it get's popular past a certain point, and it also used to be a bunch of guys with old cars here. Now the new cars are old and cheap, and the crowd has changed a bit it seems. It's a thing, seen it happen to many forums, sometimes it passes. Give it a bit and I'm sure someone will chime in that knows that system.

I'm getting an ASR light and limp home mode after the second or third start. Sometimes it happens others not. I bought the car in this condition and have changed the ETA, OVP relay, ECU/PCM, ASR module, and I've noticed that it has the updated upper wiring harness.

Wheel sensors are used for abs, asr, and 4matic. I'm not 100% for your car as it's a bit newer than what I'm familiar with (my car is a bit earlier s124).
If you unplugged them you should get an abs light , at the very least.

I hate asr,and abs.I'm old school and know how to pump brakes.Asr just slows you down, sometimes you need wheel spin in the snow.Mine has been by passed 5 years.

Now you're talking my language. How do you bypass it? I unplugged the ASR/ABS module and that definitely turns it off but maybe there's a more proper way to do it.

There is a factory way to shut off ASR so the car can be run on dyno rollers Have a look through these threads, I think there is a schematic in there somewhere. The Rentech bypass system is a $$ way of putting the system into test mode. From what I recall, it involves grounding a wire each time the car is started.

On my 95 E320, the wheel sensors are used by the ECU to measure vehicle speed during deceleration and idle at stop. That might be affected along with triggering an ABS/ASR light.

if your getting and asr on 2nd or third start , check your voltages , you need a strong battery for car no weak battery, 2nd check your linkeges you may have a missing return spring at throttle , make sure your cable is ok , no hanging up, make sure all moving throttle parts are well lubricated

I had a car years ago that turned on abs light on due to short in sparkplug connector arcing to engine, a tune up and new boot cured abs light , go figure, asr just backs off throttle if wheel spin is detected , obviously if your just starting the car the wheels aren't spinning so the wheel speed sensors don't matter that's not your problem, just put an ohm meter and check your wheel cables for intermittent open circuit
