W126 brake support link ball joint.
Car is a '91 W126, 350 SDL. Suspecting the braking support link ball joint.
The question is, can this part be changed out without removing the bearing carrier from the car? Or is it easier to just drop the carrier?

I can only imagine these are the caster rod bushings.
If you want to make yourself nuts, you may be able to R&R it with the aluminum carrier on the body. I find it easiest to pull the spring so you can unbolt the rod from the LCA and slide it out as a unit. Give it a firm whack on the ground, once you have removed the rear cover, and the bushing will pop right out. ![]() At nearly 300k, you will need LCA bushings and I would do springs with new OE shims too. They sag with age. Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks for your reply.
I ordered a video from Mercedesource on doing this project. In it they drop the carrier and remove the rod without dropping the LCA. Project looks pretty straight forward. I know the inboard bushings of the LCA are an up coming project. I'm just taking things as they come. I know that job will require a spring compressor. They sell a tool set for replacing the bushings but I'm still learning these cars and if there is a "shade tree" method I'm all for learning how. Just taking things as they come. ![]() I will report back. Maybe I can help others in return for the help this forum has provided me. ![]()
