Lawnmower and Weed Trimmer fuel question......
A poster on another forum says that he uses either Coleman White Fuel or Aviation Fuel in all of his gas powered lawn equipment. He says it guarantees they will fire right up after winter storage. He recommends never using car gas in yard equipment. Thoughts or ideas??

My only thoughts on this is that Coleman fuel works in my camp stove after 12 months of sitting, though I do top the tank off with new fuel from the 4 year old tank of coleman fuel I have on the shelf.
Come to think of it.... I have a 10 year old tank of Coleman fuel that still burns fine in the stove and the lantern. But it's expensive stuff. Maybe just use to to winterize, but I don't know about a 2 cycle motor. What about a fogging agent. |

Why would you not just simply drain fuel and run the carb/lines dry before storage?

Sounds to me like someone has a bad case of HUA. Gasoline, even poisoned with ethanol, is preferable to either AvGas or Coleman Fuel for a lawnmower or weed whacker. If you're concerned about it, shut the fuel valve off and run the carb dry after each use. If you're REALLY paranoid about it, use an additive like Sta-Bil. We use the latter at work in our gerry cans and it'll keep E-10 fuel usable for a little over a year.

Avgas (usually 100LL) has lead that will foul up your spark plug, spark arrestor in your muffler, exhaust valve, etc. I wouldn't use it in anything not designed for it, and even then, engines like the Lycoming O-235 have issues with lead buildup.
If you want the best (and most expensive) 2-stroke gas you can buy, go to the hardware store and buy the half-gallon cans of 2-stroke gas. If you're only using your trimmer or chainsaw whatever occasionally, you won't use much of it. Sometimes marinas get ethanol-free gas, you can call around and ask.

Barring the lead buildup issues I would think AvGas would be a good storage fuel since it shouldn't have ethanol in it. Ethanol is a big part of why gas goes bad after 3 months in this day and age. If you know where to look you can often find a pump in a rural area that sells 0% ethanol gas for this kind of application.

This website will help direct you to a station that has ethanol-free gas.

looked it up,it was pure gasoline, don't know octane rating.had no lead.so plain unleaded would be the same,or Mexican regular,it has wayy low octane,as I would set timing back 10 degrees in mexico.

For a while I worked for Snapper putting hours on prototype lawnmowers. We ran them on AvGas, the idea being that the engines were tested separately and we wanted no engine issues while testing the rest of the machine. It seems to have worked quite well.
In my own mower I just use ethanol free with some fuel stabilizer added.
