190E Engine Longevity

My '92 190E has 134,000 miles on it. I had a mechanic tell me that around 150K the valve guides on the 2.6 engine need to be replaced and the job costs around $2500. What's the scoop? Should I sell the car now before I have to spend a bundle or am I getting bad info?
