More phone help!

The phone help thread is interesting but geared to older phones. I'm having trouble with my factory Startac 7860.

This phone is part of the voice activated system on a MY2000. It was working and has suddenly stopped. The phone works fine in portable mode, however in the cradle the system thinks there is no phone?

Also, does the software in the phone need to be upgraded by Mercedes every so often to keep up with provider software upgrades?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The normal cause for problem with no connection to the phone in hands-free mode is the coil cord. Second place in this category is the phone handset itself.
If there is any updating available for the handset, i am unaware of it.

Hi Gilly,

Are these two year old phones servicable by DB? I'm told the phones are no longer available. Have you seen warranty work performed on this equipment?

Thx, Ed

I believe you can still get reman units, not sure how a repair would be handled on "your" phone, may need to trade it for a reman. Concentrate on the coil cord first, don't jump to the most expensive part first.

Gilly,

I swear the least expensive part is perhaps the most costly, the documentation. Suddenly today the phone worked, the only difference was the car was running and I turned the phone on before putting it into the cradle. The manual says this doesn't matter since it will sync up the next time the key is removed and reinserted.

The other weird thing was the battery was dead last night, not my daily driver, so I charged it up and now have some weird electrical problem with the ABS and Brake assist sensors telling me there is a malfunction. Maybe I had something electrical going on???

On the ABS/BAS light, what you want to do now is start it, then turn the steering wheel all the way one way (to the stop) then all the way the other way, may have to do this a couple times. The steering angle sensor has lost it's synchronization, doing this resynchronizes it, the lights should then go out.

Thanks Gilly,

Before I read your post they went out by themselves. I must have made some turns...
