Question R129 engine oil level sender

The lower right side of the engine shows an oil leak.So far it doesn't seem related to the valve cover. It might be due to old O-rings on the oil level sender. It is apparently a common problem with the 119 engines. Can anyone tell me if this sender is accessible without dropping the oil pan?
On the parts diagrams I have, it is clearly shown as a two piece assembly
with a little electrical lead connecting them and located in the vicinity of
the oil pump. The little plastic connector at one end of the electrical lead
has two O-rings that suggest that it penetrates the crankcase or upper oil pan somewhere. Thanks very much
