M104.98 (CIS) - Oil cooler line seal

Gotta love the early CIS M104.
While replacing the water pump, I was extremely careful while handling the metal cooler line (between WP and the oil filter housing). after reading a lot about that lovely hose, I’m terrified of putting everything back together and discovering a coolant leak from the o ring (oil filter housing side of hose).
What are the chances of that seal to break?, is there anyway to replace that O ring without removing the intake? is there anyway to check the seal prior to installing the pump?

Thanks
