Just to add some a little bit of my own experience... I tried using some of the Victor Reinz "Reinzoplast" (blue sealant, their equivalent of "hylomar") on a couple of M103 engine seals, namely the one between the upper timing cover and lower cover, horseshoe shaped seal. After less than 1,000 miles the seal was leaking once again. Upon disassembly (again), it appeared that the blue sealant had reacted or "attacked" the rubber gasket and caused it to swell slightly. This was a brand new Genuine MB seal, I believe "Bruss" was the manufacturer.
Replaced with another MB seal, and instead used "Reinzosil" this time, and no leaks for quite some time now. Just thought I would see how well this worked as an "experiment", you win some, you lose some.

Also, I have seen the M103 throttle body "butterfly valve" shaft seal vacuum leak a couple times. I solved this by replacing the TB with a good used unit. I believe it is probably caused either by wear, or incorrect removal of the throttle linkage rod that connect to it. In other words, it's FRAGILE, do not remove the linkage from the TB end, remove only from opposite end!
