Security question about keys...
The car: 1994 E320 wagon
The key: Valet key The question: Is it possible for an undesirable type to make a copy of my valet key in reasonable amount of time good enough to steal my car? I' m trying not to sound too paranoid. |

Cant remember if that is a laser cut key or not, I believe it is. Laser cut keys cannot be made ( only ordered from Mercedes) . Now if it is a older type non laser cut key anyone can have one made in a number of minutes

Thanks euro. I think it is laser cut as it has a kind of 'relief' quality to it, the outline of the key looks like a sword. Long story - but I was nervous about the key being in unknown hands for a brief period.

I had one of my laser cut keys immitated at a key shop once. The key still opens the doors but the ignition tumbler is too smart and after a couple of months it rejected the new key. If I were you, I wouldnt be afraid of valet people stealing your car unless you have your home address inside your car. I do remember there was a robbery at my friend's home and they found the suspect to be someone working at the valet. The valet found my friend's house because their home address was on an envelope inside the car and they had one of the home keys copied. That is why I dont give the valet any of my home keys. The best is the look on the valet's face once you give the smartkey's valet key. To turn that key is a pain the ass. Summary: Don't stress about someone stealing your E320.
