Is there a specific procedure for this beyond removing the cover and replaceing the filter?

The torque converter has a drain plug, suggest that fluid in it also be changed!

Yes, you must start with only 4 qts and then start it up and add 2 more then fill it to 10mm below the bottom line on the stick.

So where is the converter drain plug? The housing in front of the gearbox appears to be open.

Gearbox? Is your car a 5-speed? I don't think so. You have to spin the engine over in a clockwise direction to access the drain plug.
