1999 w210 radio question

Greetings....trying to install an aftermarket radio in the above-mentioned car. the factory radio worked but was not that great.
i had another w210 with a pioneer deck, and the wiring connector for the mercedes (plugs into the factory harness on the car side-looked professionally done)
i tried to use that but it failed to play sound out of the speakers, although appears to be working otherwise.
i have a sony deck and used the same wire tail (unprofessionally, but correctly spliced) with the same result.

my question is this: is there another step i'm missing somewhere or another connection/modification (thinking along the lines of having to bypass the fader on the w126 chassis)

thanks
G

i did some checking on the interwebs and found the harness for the Bose radio is slightly different. there needs to be a power wire for the amp which the non-bose harness* doesn't have.
*EDIT: the non-bose aftermarket harness

I'm pretty sure the wiring on the stock radio conforms to an ISO standard.

I'd have to see a wiring diagram but the aftermarket unit should have an output to trigger / wake up the external amp. I doubt this wire can power the amp so the amp must have an external power source.

yes, sorry i forgot to add that part....i figured out which slot needed to have the wire and installed the wire in an open slot in the connector. there is a solid blue wire and a blue/white wire.
i had it attached to the solid blue (because i thought that was what i read) but it actually needed to be spliced to the wh/blu and it worked.

the sony unit did have a trigger wire but the non-bose harness (from the car plug to the radio wire harness) does not have the wire (or more importantly the pin). if you go to crutchfield the non-bose harness come with 2 extra blue wires; one for the amp trigger and one for the antenna.
