Gauge pod swap

Been reading and not getting a clear answer. My manuals on CD are coming!!

Have an 81 240D, PO did a 300TD swap I don't have a tachometer in the 240, question is can I take a dash pod from a 300D car and just do a complete swap, will the 240 wiring harness have the needed wires for the tach, other gauges would just be a swap of plugs I'm guessing....if not on the tach I'll have to wait on the manuals to see where the tach trigger is on the 300TD engine and go from there..

you would have to swap over the tach amp and wiring up to the cluster. I am not sure if the 240D has the sensor on the front of the engine or not.

Well this is what I found today, I am assuming this is the crank pickup and and the plug on the other end is what will go to the tach , once I find one...

#1 Will I need anythings else for a tach to work?

#2 Does this plug help anyone date the engine?

Would be simple enough wiring. I put an MB tach/clock in my '84 diesel Blazer. Cant use it for fuel gov timing, I mounted the sensor in a convenient location. (<-used one of the water pump mounting bolts & got power from glow plug circuit-clock from allus on circuit)
