250S M108 Camshaft Problem - Help

Can anyone help identify what is going on with my camshaft here? There is pronounced scoring of the bearing surface on the camshaft end (at Cyl 6/firewall) and the cam tower bearing.

Took head off because I had no readable compression on Cyl 6, and wanted to remove the the valve assemblies there. What I don't know is how long this has been like this. This is the first time I've taken the camshaft assembly off the cyl head.

I'm generally an optimist; but this does not look good. I don;t know whether to motor on as is Or do I need to find a replacement camshaft and bearing tower? (assuming the tower can't be repaired). All of the other camshaft bearing surfaces are good, same for the lobe surfaces.
