1985 W 126 380 SE Ignition key work cannot remove tumbler

I made a push rod for the tumbler of the ignition . I can press the rod in , but the tumbler will not come out . I know I can drill out the tumbler . But will this cause problems with the steering lock ?

If you are using a U-shaped tool with the ends sharpened to remove the ignition tumbler the key needs to be turned to Position 1. Check your Owner's Manual for the key alignment in Position 1. If you have never done this before it takes patience until you get the "feel" for releasing the tumbler. As with most things, once you do it the first time it will be far easier next time around.
