Lower Front Ball Joint Replacement on 96 C280

Hi,

Need to replace the front lower ball joint on 96 c280. Joint became noisy. Used needle lube injector to quiet joint to confirm fault. I have the new joint but have not performed this procedure before. Are any special tools required? Any help would be appreciated. Are these joints subject to catatrophic separation failure.

I changed them on my W202 not too long ago. With a lift, air tools and a screw jack to put under the lower control arm. I think the replacement time was about a half hour. Its a pretty simple job, 2 nuts hold it on, and there is a locating pin that need to be lined up, that's it! I only use the screw jack for safety purposes, but for the time you will have the ball joint out, the shock should hold the spring in place.

I try to replace the ball joint on 97 C230, but I encounter problems after I unscrew two bolts. I can't get the ball joint out. Do I have to remove more component to get the ball joint out? (ie: control arm, tie rod joint, ?)
is there any trick to get the ball joint out?

thanks
