Hi Everyone, Today I went out to warm up my '95 E320 and I turned on the blower fan. 10 min later I found the fan wasn't running. I pushed the button again and it came on briefly and stopped. None of the switches would turn it back on.
I dug around on the forum to find out simple things to check first. I did replace all of my ceramic fuses with copper element fuses. Also, I opened the small black box next to the main fuse box. Inside there were 2 blue ceramic fuses which I found one to be burnt. Thought I found the culprit. I put 2 new copper fuses and checked the fan switches again. Still nothing. I did notice that the snow chain switch light came on. I never noticed that before, so maybe the fuse fixed it(?)


I couldn't find any strip fuses and my question is does the 95's have these? Maybe the ceramic fuses in that small box were used in later W124s in place of strip fuses?


The blower motor has always worked flawlessly with plenty of power and no noise. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

All the w124s I’ve seen have it right there on the driver side hood compartment. Most likely it’s the motor Brushes worn and not the fuse. It’s not hard to change the motor. Tedious but not complicated

Thanks speednjay. Yes, I found it. I did an exhaustive search online and found a pic showing where it's located. I opened the cover and found the strip was burned. I'm hoping it's only due to age and not something shorted causing it to burn. In any case I'll be ordering a few spares tonight. My '94 most likely uses the same strip fuses. Make sure you grab the right fuse. The diesels use that spot as a glow plug fuse which is 60 amp. The gassers use a 30a. I’ll see if I can get a part number later today.

Without noises you're probably good with just the fuse. Have had several fail over many years.

I found the strip fuses on ******** AZ. They are 30 amp and cost only .35 each so I bought 4. I borrowed the fuse from my '94 this morning and the blower is working fine and the fuse didn't blow. The motor has always run quiet and strong. Glad I didn't have to change it or the resistor. I've read up on the process and it sounds pretty time consuming.


Now I have the fun job of replacing the engine wiring harness on my '94 which I'll start tomorrow. I originally thought it had a good harness so the one I bought for it I used on my '95 a couple of months ago. I found the remnants of the paper tag and lo and behold; it is the original bio-junk harness. Well, at least I know to change it. I could probably do it in my sleep. Yes, it is a fairly straight forward job. I did the harness on my '95 back in Jan. It took me two days, but only because I had to work outside in 20 degree weather and rain to boot. lol. Took lots of breaks to warm my hands. I had my '94 in the garage jacked up doing brakes and struts.
