5-spd shifter W123

Hi there,

Im trying to rebuild the shifter. At the moment, the spring on the stick is pressing against the shaft that selects reverse. Would seem to be in the wrong position, or at least lacks the usual mercedes precision. At the same time, its too narrow to make it over the hump on the stick shaft. So the gears are occasionally binding. I got a new spring from Mercedes. Same problem. Any ideas, please?
