C230 Manual Shift Linkage
Hey guys, in the middle of a 6speed swap and was wonder if anyone had any further info on the two different styles of gear shift mechanisms I'm seeing in the EPC. I unfortunately have the version that has a cable in tandem with a linkage that adds complication if you need to shorten the assembly (which is required when installing into the w124 chassis). The transmission is in, and the linkage/cable shortened and installed. I just don't like the solution and feel like the second version would offer more direct feel/feedback. Here's a diagram of the two versions:
Does anyone know if there was a production break, a certain market that received this version, or other models aside from the w203 that may have received this linkage? Trying to source one without coughing up big-boy money at the dealer. The shift knob of the 2nd version appears to match the later model w203's that had a different engine/trans.

The shift frame (Item 5 in the upper pick, and 10 in the lower), the shift rod (not numbered), and the cable (155). Basically the entire assembly.
Either that or I'd have to relocate the shifter hole in the transmission tunnel and the center council. As luck would have it though, the w210 front and rear shaft has just the right length. We did have to move the center support bearing back (welded). But other than that you wind up with a beefier flex disc and bigger shafts, which for me is desirable because I'm running an om606 with 7.5mm elements. The old smaller flex discs wouldn't have been long for this world.
