At the shop today getting trans swapped out. Bit the bullet to have someone else do the job. I literally had no ambition to lay under the car on the concrete all day.

I recently replaced my transmission on my 1992 190e.

For anyone who hasn't swapped a transmission before:

-Buy the manual from **************. Invaluable and and worth every cent.
https://**************.com/store/automatic-transmission-removal-and-replacement-kent-bergsma

-get a transmission jack from harbor Freight (about $120)

-if you need a rebuild transmission get it from Sun Valley Mercedes Transmissions in LA. You don't want to do this over again when risking a used trannny (ask me how I know)

Put all four corners on tall jack stands and prepare to spend 6-10 hours (if first time) on your back. Not difficult but time consuming. Follow Kents manual exactly and you will be fine.

On most cars it's easier to swap the transmission by taking the whole engine/tranny out.

Less laying on the floor. And you don't have to handle the whole tranny while being under there.

Smart choice. I’d like to get myself a lift one day. They don’t even seem all that expensive.

These cars always start in second gear. You need to manually select 1st gear to use it. If it worries you then there are kits that can be bought and installed to force first gear start every time.

Laying under a car for a job like this is not fun or particularly safe. It shouldn't be more than 4-5 hours of labor at a shop. I don't know what you make an hour but if we say a conservative $30 you're only saving $350-500 doing it yourself.

I wouldn't do it without a shop lift and trans jack.

Ya the guy at the shop said he can do it for about $600 for 8 hours. Seemed fair. I’m getting old or something but I feel it in my body for days if I’m laying on concrete
