Changed Car Battery, and ABS, BAS, ESP lights on now

W210 E430 2002

OK, the battery was weak, so I purchased a new one.

With battery out of car for about an hour, I replaced it with a new battery.

Now the dashboard is telling me that with BAS, I need to go to workshop.

What workshop is it talking about?

What could I have done that would not have raised this error message?

Many thanks

Great news, and it worked.

Thank you so much. You have calmed my anxiety.

Be well.

If you connect an auxiliary power source prior to changing battery you wont have to reset, sunroof , windows, radio, and abs/esp faults, they sell an adaptor to keep memory , it plugs into cigar socket

Unsure if yours but in every Mercedes I've owned the lighter socket is dead unless the ignition is turned on. Doubt if backfeeding into it will do anything with ignition off.

Another way to keep the car alive while changing the battery is to hook up the front jumper ports (under the hood) to another car like you are jumpstarting.

Then remove the battery from under the seat taking extra care not to touch the battery positive cable to any body sheet metal (I use a very thick rag and immediately wrap it as it comes off the battery post)

This is because all mercedes will have a dead cigar lighter socket when the car is off - and you cannot leave the key in On position like on other cars to backfeed from the lighter - as the EIS is not mechanical switch but a computer module itself.

You can try the OBD port - it has a 12V live pin but I dont recall if its always hot or hot on key only.
