Sooo, I've come across a great deal on a '07 CLK 550 in overall excellent condition...or so it appears. The thing that scares me is that it's in the VIN range where the "soft" idler gear hadn't yet been upgraded. A trusted source tells me that I shouldn't let that stop me from buying the car if everything else checks out. I've heard conflicting opinions on whether the engine would need to be pulled or not to repair/replace. Yes or no? I've also heard that there is a website (somewhere) that would tell me if the gear had been replaced or not by simply entering the engine number. Anyone heard of such? Looking for opinions from those who know. Should I or shouldn't I? Thanks in advance for your expertise and your input...
