W123 280e Warm start issue
Hi all
Looking for some input on my W123 280e - 1980 year model. Recently began to not restart when warm - no issues what so ever when cold but once i turn the car off and then try and restart it doesn't turn the starter if the engine is at operating temp. Any thoughts appreciated Thank you |

rh inner fender, there's a 3 or 4 post electric junction block. look for a purple wire, that's the feed from the ignition switch joined with the wire to the starter solenoid. when it's hot and won't crank, jump a wire from the battery positive to the purple wire. still won't crank? very likely it needs a starter. best test is to check for voltage at the solenoid when cranking hot and make sure 12v is getting there but it's hard to reach.
if you did that and don't have 12v at the solenoid, then you have to backtrack and look for broken wire or a bad ignition switch. i've replaced dozens of those switches and never had to for what you describe. my money's on the starter. good luck, chuck. |
