Ugly Noise in the aft end!
My 1980 240D makes a horrible gravely, grinding noise in the drives side rear wheel when making right hand turns. I have installed a new driveline and passenger side drive axle in the last couple months to solve some other problems but the noise still remains. I replaced the driver’s side drive axle about 5 years ago so that is probably not the cause but I can’t be sure. My next guess is wheel bearings but I hate to throe that kind of money at it and find out that is not the issue.

I'd suggest jacking the car up-
Pull and push on the wheel in question. If you have play-it's most likely a bad brg. By turning the wheel- is it feel rough??? If you've been driving it a while, maybe putting in a used a-arm/brg assy is easier(?). I agree- diagnois the problem, don't throw money at it! Michael
