Opinion on 2008 e350 4matic
Ran the VIN and the engine number checks out (no balance shaft issue?)
I have a few w211 cars but never had a 272 equipped one. I need an awd car and figure I would see what y’all think! Thank you G

My DD is an '08 E350 Sport non-4matic 175k. Good performance, about 27-28 MPG pure highway. Runs well, looks great, brings unsolicited compliments. I'm happy with it overall.
Good luck!!!

Silver is, in my opinion, the best color for this version and if I could do it again, that would be my choice, vs the black I now have (although the black looks very nice too). This car is easy to work on so maintenance is effortless and costly repairs can become cheap, even enjoyable, if you study, rehearse, and have the right tools. Only major work I have had done by a shop is: * Axle replacement due to torn boots and contamination in the CV joints * Oil sensor leak -- which was actually a misdiagnosis by the repair shop, yet cost me $1,000. Actual culprit was the chain tensioner, which worked itself loose and leaked. They wanted ANOTHER $1,000 to fix that but I did it myself for the roughly $60 cost of the part. Upcoming DIY work is front wheel bearings and lower control arm bushings. All else has been routine oil changes, brakes and rotors, and tire replacement ,since my car likes to hunt for screws and shards of metal to roll over. Also engine and transmission mounts. Finally, today's MB-Tex seat material is nowhere near as durable as it was on the W124's. My driver's seat is badly torn; there are replacement covers readily available but I have yet to find instructions on how to remove the lower cushion from the car, so more tedious research for me to do.

Eric you may be aware of this, I wasn't but was educated by a forum member...on non-4maics, the front wheel seals are magnetic tone rings. Pounding them in like normal risks damaging them. They should be drawn or possibly pressed in to place. I got lucky lightly hammering them in with a block of wood.
Good luck!!!

Yep, definitely did my homework on this one.
On my 4Matic it is different -- one-piece bearing with no magnetic ring; that part in on the axle shaft/outer CV joint. I have a proper press kit for this job and plan to be very gentle when inserting them. Quote:
