Can't pull engine diagnostics on my 90 300TE
First post here and this is what's going on with this car.
Have owned it for around 2 months now and the car was a mess when I got it. Solid 3 owner Southern car that has never been titled out of Alabama. Car had sat up evidently for a number of years before I got it. I bought it from a guy who had dropped a bunch of parts and labor in it over the few months he had owned it. Evidently the wife got fed up with it as he dumped the car for less than what I have receipts for in parts and labor from a local shop for. Car still needed a lot of work but had potential when i got it. Wound up with struts and mounts, the former owner had evidently bottomed the car out and knocked the core support back about 8 inches, SLS hose was pouring as was the power steering pump, every fluid hose was ether suspect or leaking, brakes were toasted with front rotors, pads, all hoses, and a full flush, both the throttle cable and trans pressure cable adjusters had crumbled and were held in place by hose clamps so both were replaced and much more. As of now have gotten the car running and driving very well but still have a couple issues. One is the car will not go into cold start so it's very difficult to start at below say 40 or so degrees. Once the car warms it runs very well and will start instantly. I tried to pull diagnostics off the 16 socket pin 3 and get nothing. the blink reader instantly illuminates at about half brightness when I drop a lead into it. I can pull data off both socket 6 and socket 7 but the engine management port is not functional. At this point I doubt the engine electronic controls on the KE Jetronic are working. Also the AC is not working. First thing I tried was replacing the Overload Relay as was also getting an intermittent ABS light. That solved the ABS light issue but didn't seem to change anything else. I also still have the no cold start issue. As of now the only thing I can think of is a bad MAS as cant pull diagnostics and the AC compressor is not engaging. Socket 3 on the diagnostic port has low constant voltage on it and should not. Suspect the MAS because of what it controls would fit the symptoms. However have almost no experience with this KE Jetronic system and don't want to just throw parts at this car. I am reaching out here for some insight from those who know this system. I have owned a 95 E 420 for around 8 years now and know that system but this one is still a bit of a mystery to me. Thanks for any insights guys. |
