Wet Differential Cover

After I checked rear rotors on my '99 E300 I noticed that the differential cover is kind of wet. Should I re-lock the bolts - if so what is the torque? Do I need to drain + re-fill the differential case? If yes do I need a 14 mm allen for the fill plug and 17 mm for the drain plug? Is there a gasket between cover and case?

Thankx, Pat

car out of warranty?

Mercedes does have a nice Hazet tool for the oil change job.

remember, if doing a dif fluis change, open fill hole first.

Ethan,
Yes, the car is out of warranty for over a year now. I do have the Hazel tool and I am using it for a while.
Can you confirm the sizes for fill and drain plugs + their torque values if you know?
Pat

No I cannot confirm, but on my C-class 14 and 17.

and in my Haynes manual no torque rating for the dif filler and drain hose are given.

As I recall with the hazet tool the plugs tighten just right, simply no more movement and there is not a lot of heft needed.

but the Haynes manual does suggest a wait when checking fluid level after a fill to account for settling
