need keys made
I have a 95 C220 and have lost the keys.
I called my local Dealership and was told that it is too old and they cant make me new keys. Also called a local locksmith and they cant make a new key. Any idea on how I can get a key? I prefer not to replace the ignition switch because then I wont be able to lock the doors. Any help is appreciated. |

Losing the keys to an older vehicle like the 1995 Mercedes-Benz C220 can indeed pose challenges, especially when dealing with limited options for key replacement from dealerships or locksmiths. However, there might still be a few avenues you can explore:
Contact Other Locksmiths or Specialist Services: Try reaching out to other locksmiths in your area, specifically those who specialize in automotive key services. Some locksmiths might have the equipment and expertise to create keys for older car models, even if the dealership declined. Search for Specialized Auto Locksmiths: Look for auto locksmiths or services that specialize in key replacements for older or classic cars. These specialists often have advanced tools and knowledge to create keys for vehicles that might be considered too old or challenging by general locksmiths or dealerships. Online Forums and Communities: Join online forums or communities dedicated to Mercedes-Benz or automotive enthusiasts. Members might have encountered similar situations and could offer suggestions or recommendations based on their experiences. Mercedes-Benz Classic Center: Reach out to the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center, which deals with classic and vintage Mercedes-Benz vehicles. They might have resources or advice on how to obtain keys for older models. Consider Replacing Ignition Tumblers: If key replacement options are limited, you might consider replacing the ignition tumblers (the part where you insert the key). Some locksmiths or specialist automotive services might offer this service without replacing the entire ignition system, allowing you to retain your current keys. Check with Independent Mercedes-Benz Specialists: Contact independent auto shops or mechanics that specialize in Mercedes-Benz vehicles. They might have access to different resources or solutions for key replacements for older models. In situations where conventional options aren't feasible, exploring unconventional or specialized services may yield success. Additionally, it's recommended to have proper proof of ownership when requesting key replacements, as it's a security measure to prevent unauthorized access to the vehicle. |

Try the Mercedes Classic Center located in Long Beach, CA. You will need to provide your VIN and proof of ownership.

I had a new tumbler and key made with the correct VIN, this was a year and half ago for my 1990 300SE. The key and tumbler are made in Texas, turnaround was less than a week. Cost was around $180, just the key is around $40 I believe.
You have to pick it up in person with your car registration at your local dealership.
