1985 Mercedes 280SL Reservoir Purpose help Needed

Hi, I have what looks to be a Reservoir installed on LH engine bay wheel well just fwd of the Wiper Fluid Reservoir. Neither Lines coming off top are connected to anything. The larger line travels to back of car & ends near fuel pump. Anyone know its purpose? Maybe not original to car
