My 1990 300E heater fan motor stopped and the preliminary symptoms say motor brushes...not push button control...because there was a period of intermittant operation before failure.

I have heard that one can replace the brushes at a much lower cost than the motor, by going in through the front, under the windshield wiper. Any truth to that hopeful tactic?
