Vantop mirror dash cam - permanent wiring option
I have installed a Vantop mirror dash cam in the 2003 Lincoln Town Car. I temporarily installed the rear camera in the upper portion of the rear window. I can have the rear camera permanently installed in a position just above the rear license plate for about $360.
I have had the Vantop mirror dash cam for about four days, I am thinking of running it for a few weeks before investing $360 in a permanent wiring set-up. Does anyone have any experience with the Vantop mirror dash cam? If so, has your experience been positive? |

I have been thinking that perhaps the rear facing camera would have a better vantage point mounted in the top of the rear window versus mounting it just above the license plate.

I ended up tapping into the overhead dome light wiring—it stays on with ignition and made the install cleaner. If you're into cameras, some of the best compact cameras actually give better video quality than budget dash cams, though obviously mounting is trickier. Just make sure whatever wire you use can handle the current without overheating.
