W126 1987 300SDL tach not working

As stated in the subject.

Fuses are good. Multimeter test results are as follows:
  • Engine speed sensor raw signal, measured with AC: 3.9V, changes in proportion to engine RPM
  • Diagnostic connector, pin 1: open
  • Diagnostic connector, pin 2: 5.8V, does not change with engine RPM
  • Tach connector + pin: alternator voltage (13.9V) with engine running
  • Tach connector W pin: 5.8V not proportional to engine RPM
Other details:
  • Clock works
  • Cruise control does not work
  • Speedometer and all other gauges work, except the fuel gauge which is sometimes flaky
  • AC compressor engages
What I'm trying to understand is where the engine speed signal is being lost, or if it's making it all the way to the tach and the tach itself is bad.

Any other ideas or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!
