Remove 3 large screws and there should be another small one by the lock mechanism.
I recommend putting duct tape ( one that does not leave a residue) on all corners and edges just in case.

The panel is held on by clips on the bottom and sides. You just have to pull it out starting at the bottom. It is not too hard. Once you have the bottoms and sides clear you have to push up hard from the bottom and it is off.
You will have a lock cable and some wires dangling but they are easy to take off.
It might be useful to have another hand the first time.
Take your time putting it back on and lining up the top of the panel.
Try not to break the clips putting it back on. I broke a couple and when I went to the dealer to get some they just gave me a handful - it seems they must break quite a few as well.

Read this post and there is no screw by the lock on the 96 W210 at least.

You need to push up quite hard on the door panel, but I can't imagine breaking a clip; I bet the clips are different on the W210 cars than Spiral's car.

If i not mistaken you don't have to pull the door panel you have to push it up and there's no clip it's like a hook.

Tom,
Is there a screw on the back of the srs emblem?

Just PULL the panel towards you at the bottom.
The clips will pull out easily.

DO NOT PULL, you LIFT UP ON the door panel as the picture plainly shows!! The hooks are tapered so they pull the panel tight to the door as you push down on the panel.

Yes there is a screw holding the door panel to the door behind the SRS emblem; I used a credit card to pry the SRS badge off.
the seat adjust switches come off with the door panel - just disconnect the plug. The whole door panel comes off, it looks like several pieces but they are all attached and come off together.

I would tighten the door check screws while it's apart, they sometimes vibrate loose.

P.S. good picture ronald_m!

I see now, you have a 96 and I have a 98! We both assumed they were all the same. I wonder what the 97 is?

Either way it is easy to get off at this point.

On my 97 e420 (November build date), you just pull the panel towards you.
