300sd fuel pump problem

Hello,

On my 300SD, the fuel pump is out of calibration, as a mechanic gave me some bad advice on how to smoothen the engine idling. He suggested that I loosen tne nozzle holders and "adjust them" left or right as needed. I have since learned that this should not be done. It's been about a couple years, and the car is fine, idles smooth, good power, very minimal smoke. The car is in mint condition and has only 130K Original miles. Is it worth replacing/recalibrating this fuel pump; should I be concerned that the engine might wear unevenly? Has anyone else ever had this happen to them>?

If the engine is as smooth as described could the injection pump be very far out. Don't mess with a good thing!

What do you mean by Far out? I;m guessing you mean just leave it the way it is?

Yes, leave it alone. If the pump was far out of calibration, the car would run terrible.

You may want to add some Redline Oil
Diesel Catalyst or 85+. You can get
it from Pep Boys or see www.redlineoil.com.

My 300SD was running 'sluggish' and I
added a bottle to a tank. It perked right
up!

I have a 1993 300SD with 119K on it.

How can a mechanic tell you that your pump is out of calibration? The only way to find out that it's off specs is if the pump were dismounted and checked by a Bosch diesel service agent on a diesel test stand.

So, if your car runs well, don't pull down that pump.
