Question 1987 300TD "Clunk"

Have a "Clunk" that comes from the drive train or rearend. Mechanic has replaced the wheel bearings and said that there is nothing wrong with the car. The "Clunk" does not appear when you "drive hard" only when you drive easy. It is at it worst when your accelerate rapidly and then have to "back out" of the feul rapidly (like when someone pulls out in front of you when you ar accelerating) and then I feel & hear a loud "Clunk" from the rear of the car. It almost sounds like the trans or the rear differential is loose but the car has been like this for 2-3 years. I thought that maybe the differential was going bad and would just replace it when it layed down. Problem is that I won't lay down and I am tired of listening to this "Clunk"

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Robert

robert,
you are not alone with the 'clunk' but first thing would suggest to do is please try a search on the diesel forum - you will find a multitude of posts regarding this issue. it may only take a simple adjustment to solve your problem.
