Window switch won't raise rear window

So anyway, I have a console like this one. Sorry I don't know how to post a photo yet. Scroll down the page at the link to see it:

Console like mine but nicer wood

I may have to change out the switch, but I want to get to it and see if I can clean it out or bend a contact before I order a switch. Can anyone give me the procedure to get to the switch without ripping up anything? Many thanks. Dave.

Can't tell about getting to the switch... was easy on my W126 ... if I remember correctly, just unscrew side pieces and ease it out ... careful, don't crack it - is easy to do and are expensive.

Rear window switch is least used, right? Try taking it apart and cleaning and then a tiny bit of light lube. I did a front ... was getting ready to go buy one and then popped it apart - LOTS of pieces ... seems like a spring, couple of clip pieces, a ball bearing or two ... and then I swapped it with arear ... works fine.

Yeah, thanks, I think if I can get to it I might be able to salvage the switch, but it's imbedded in the console. I've got to get the wood up to get to it. Anybody done this on a console like mine? It's a little different than the one in the DIY section on stereo removal.

First of all, you need to make sure that it is the switch. To test if it is the switch you open the driver door so the dome light is on, watch the dome light while you press the window switch, if the dome does not dim then it is the switch, if the dome light goes dim then it is not your switch.
The switch itself is pressed on to the hole in the console. it is holding by the plastic tabs. You can carefully pop the switch upward with a real thin pocket knife or screw driver.

WD 40 Rules

Couldn't find any switch cleaner at Radio Shack. Shot down through the gap in the console with a little WD, then used a compressed air canister like you clean a keyboard with. Window works fine.
