Where to get Blank key or duplicate

I have a friend with a 190E '89 and looking would like to duplicate his ignition key. Is there any place he could go cheaper to get blank key or duplicate than going to the dealer?

Thanks....

I think it is the same kind of key blank as my 88' 300e. I went to a good locksmith shop. It takes a special machine and they will not be able to do it at home depot. It cost me $25 bucks. Not Cheap but cheaper than loosing the key and having to have a key made or ordered from the dealer; lots more cash.

I gaurantee I don't try to use my merc key for a screwdriver or bottle opener.....I use the house key....its cheaper to break a window.

Good luck

I had to have a new key made for my '88 sl recently and I was surprised the dealer was cheaper. I went to one key shop and they couldn't do it. Another wanted 30 bucks. I went to the dealer and they only charged 25 (I know, only 25 buck for a friggin' key). You have to give them your VIN and proof of ownership. They don't even take your key to copy. They have a new one machined from their records. It takes about 3 days, but they key is smooth as silk.
