Infared W140
The infared lite in the door handles blinks for about 20 seconds after you press the transmitter button.
Locks seem to be working ok except every once in awhile the trunk handle pops out for no apparent reason. Is the long blinking normal and if not what could be wrong? |

Seems a little long . . .
My '94 S500 cpe blinks about 3 - 4 secs to open; about 4-5 secs to close.
So 20 secs seems abit much. But this is my first W140, so have nothing to compare with. |

If you look in the owners manual it may describe what the different blinking patterns mean. Gilly

Usually this means that the transmitter batteries are getting weak.

Replaced batteries in transmitters still takes 20 seconds for locking light to stop blinking, had system checked for leaks , no leaks. what could be causing this?

Rdanz,
From the Owner's manual for 92 600SEL page 30: "The red indicator lamps on the receivers should blink. They stop blinking after approx. 3 sec. when the vehicle is properly locked. Notes: If the door or the trunk is not properly closed after you attempt to lock the car by remote control, the red indicator lamps will continue to blink (max. 10 sec). Open the door or trunk lid, close it properly, and lock the car again". I had that veryfied on my car and it worked as described in the manual. If you sure you doors and trunk are closed properly, you need to check microswitches and wiring. I would start from the trunk because you have trunk handle popping out. |

Maybe check to see if a code or. . .
codes are stored in the ATA. Probably will point to what to do next!
ATA = Anti-Theft Alarm system. Sorry! Last edited by JimF; 11-03-2002 at 10:12 AM. |

Whats an "ATA"?
How do I access the codes stored in the ATA? Last edited by rdanz; 11-03-2002 at 01:51 PM. |
